Riots broke out in Brussels after Morocco’s victory against Belgium at the World Cup

Riots broke out in the center of Brussels after the victory of the Moroccan national team over the Belgians at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Moroccan fans burned cars, threw firecrackers, broke scooters and street furniture. They also tore down Belgian flags. Because of the unrest, the local police were forced to cordon off part of Brussels and use tear gas with water cannons. This is reported by The Brussels Times. So far, one casualty has been reported. Due to the riots, the movement of trams and the metro was stopped.

Brussels Mayor Philippe Close urged football fans to stay away from the city center and said the authorities were doing everything they could to keep order on the streets, according to NBC News.

Morocco beat Belgium 2-0. Morocco took four points to move up to the top of the Group F standings, with Belgium in second place with three points.
