The independent Dagestani newspaper Chernovik has suspended its printed version as authorities put pressure on its distributors and advertisers. The corresponding statement was published on the website of the publication.
“Since the printing houses refuse to print us against their will, the authorities put pressure on the distributors of the newspaper and advertisers, we are forced to suspend the printed version. The editors tried to overcome these difficulties, found new printing houses, including in other regions of Russia, but in the end, after a short cooperation, we meet forced refusals everywhere, ”the letter says.
Next year, "Chernovik" will be 20 years old. The editors of the publication believe that what is happening is politically motivated pressure from the Dagestan authorities. Because of this, she was unable to publish two printed issues of the newspaper. On November 28, the publication held a press conference for the media, which talked about how the authorities interfere with its activities.
In August 2022, the editor-in-chief of Chernovik, Mairbek Agayev, was fined 60,000 rubles for “fakes” about the Russian army. The reason was the publication on the website of the publication of a reprint of an article from Novaya Gazeta about the war in Ukraine. Prior to this, Magdy Kamalov, the founder of Chernovik, was fined 100,000 rubles for "discrediting" the Russian military. The reason is the repost of Igor Strelkov's publication. At the same time, Strelkov himself did not receive any fines.
