After the end of hostilities, Ukraine will be able to join NATO. This statement was made by Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg.
NATO’s doors are open to new members, he said, and Russia has no veto power to bar anyone from joining the alliance. Stoltenberg stressed that the military-political bloc adheres to the same position on the issue of the possible membership of Ukraine.
The main focus of NATO countries, as noted by the Secretary General, is now focused on the support and victory of Ukraine as a sovereign state. However, it should not be expected to join the alliance in the near future, since it is not clear how the country’s borders will look like in the future.
At the end of September, Ukraine applied to join NATO on an accelerated basis. At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that de facto the country had already passed its way to join the alliance and proved interoperability with its standards.
