The Federation Council received a proposal from Russian President Vladimir Putin on the release of Alexei Kudrin from the post of head of the Accounts Chamber. This was stated to RIA Novosti by the chairman of the budget committee of the Federation Council Anatoly Artamonov.
The profile committee will consider the issue of Kudrin's resignation from office on November 29, TASS reports .
Kudrin confirmed his departure on his Telegram channel. He wrote that he has spent a total of about 25 years in the public sector and now wants to focus on big projects that are “developmental in a broad sense of private initiatives” and have “a significant impact on people.”
“I am leaving the post of Chairman of the Accounts Chamber, about which I submitted a corresponding application to the President of the Russian Federation in the prescribed manner.”
On November 28, Artamonov reported that the Federation Council might consider removing Kudrin from his post at a plenary session on Wednesday, November 30, if a submission was received by that time. According to him, no new candidates for the post of head of the Accounts Chamber were presented to the president by the committee.
According to Meduza , citing sources, Kudrin, at a personal meeting with Putin on September 15, asked to be allowed to transfer from his position to work at Yandex. The first vice-speaker of the State Duma Alexander Zhukov became a candidate for his post, a source familiar with the discussion told RBC. The information was confirmed by two interlocutors close to the Presidential Administration and four federal officials. According to one of the interlocutors, Kudrin himself proposes Zhukov as the main candidate to replace him, but there are other options.
In May, it became known that Kudrin left the post of dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences of St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU). He wrote a statement about withdrawing his candidacy from the new dean elections on May 13, but as a result, the elections did not take place. This spring, the head of the Accounts Chamber said that the Russians would live in a severe economic crisis for another year and a half. He clarified that this crisis is harder than the previous two – 2009 and 2020, when the global economy was hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
