NATO will increase aid to Kyiv because Putin uses winter as a “weapon of war” – Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the member countries of the alliance will increase assistance to Kyiv because Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to use winter as a "weapon of war". It is reported by Reuters.

According to Stoltenberg, now the Russian army is failing on the battlefield, so Putin is going to use the cold season as a weapon.

NATO foreign ministers will focus on increasing military assistance to Ukraine, such as air defense systems and ammunition, even though there are problems with supplies and stocks. The ministers are also discussing the supply of non-lethal military equipment.

“I think we've all seen these satellite pictures where you see Europe in light and Ukraine in darkness. Restoring all this is a huge task.”

Ministers will also discuss Ukraine's application for NATO membership. Stoltenberg specified that the country would become a member of the alliance, but did not name the exact date of entry.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has warned that the city could face the worst winter since World War II. He said in an interview with the German Bild that if things go according to the worst scenario, part of the city may have to be evacuated. He accused Russia of doing everything to "force the inhabitants of Kyiv to flee the city" and called on the German authorities to speed up the supply of generators, warm clothes and humanitarian aid in addition to weapons.

Earlier, The Insider told how, due to Russian shelling that damaged the energy infrastructure, Ukrainians are mastering cooking with candles and learning how to make homemade power banks. At the same time, the Kremlin and the Ministry of Defense openly admit that they really are hitting Ukraine's energy facilities with "high-precision weapons."
