Poland will make partially paid housing and food for Ukrainian refugees

Next year, Poland will make housing and food for Ukrainian refugees partly paid. This writes "Polish Radio" with reference to the Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki.

From March 1, 2023, those who fled the war in Ukraine and stay in Polish accommodation centers for more than 120 days will have to cover 50% of the cost of living. In a few months, this amount will increase to 75%. The rule will not apply to people with disabilities, children, pregnant women, pensioners and guardians of at least three children.

In addition, all Ukrainian refugees will be required to obtain a PESEL number. This is the identification number of the universal electronic population registration system. PESEL of those who leave Poland will be frozen.

According to Morawiecki, the amendments should improve the quality of assistance provided in the event of a second wave of refugees: “Already today in Ukraine, several million people do not have access to electricity, water, basic living conditions, and sanitary facilities. Therefore, we are preparing for a new wave of refugees and we want the system to be prepared accordingly, and Polish taxpayers pay less for this possible next wave.”
