Putin demanded to evict the Russians from the slums. He’s been repeating this for 15 years

Russian President Vladimir Putin once again said that residents should be evicted from slums – dilapidated and dilapidated housing. He has been repeating this requirement for 15 years.

“It is necessary to evict people from the slums, the resettlement of citizens from the emergency fund is ahead of schedule,” Putin said at a meeting with representatives of the regions. The improvement of cities and villages, in his opinion, is a “sensitive” topic, but people, Putin says, “see positive changes with their own eyes.”

Putin spoke about the immorality of the existence of slums back in 2007. “In general, I consider the state’s inattention to these problems to be immoral. A country with such reserves accumulated through oil and gas revenues cannot put up with the fact that millions of its citizens live in slums, ”he said.

In 2012, he stated "We need to get people out of the slums, eventually."

The president raised this topic again in 2013: “First of all, people need to be pulled out of the slums.”

In 2020, he spoke about this at least twice. In December, he called for “finally resolving the issue” with the resettlement of Russians from dilapidated housing: “We spoke with you more than once about the resettlement of dilapidated housing. This shameful page must be closed, people must be pulled out of the slums, and so that new ones do not grow in our country, so that the volume of emergency housing does not increase.

In 2021, he again called for getting people out of the slums and launching a new emergency housing resettlement program:

“I have already said many times, I want to emphasize again: we need to get people out of the slums.”
