At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Group E hosts the decisive match for the German national team with the Costa Rica team. The entire refereeing team at the match is female. Stephanie Frappart of France was the referee of the match, with Mexican Karen Diaz Medina and Neusa Beck of Brazil helping her, CNN reports . The German national team needs only a victory to reach the playoffs.
Previously, an all-female team of referees worked only in qualifying matches. In 2021, women officiated the qualifying match between England and Andorra. The chief referee was Ukrainian Ekaterina Monzul, her compatriots Marina Streletskaya and Svetlana Grushko were appointed assistants. The video assistant then was the current chief arbiter, Stephanie Frappart.
An all-female brigade was also at the 2020 Club World Cup. For the first time in the history of the tournament, the judging team from South America was among the judges.
