The Nizhny Novgorod District Court found guilty three police officers who, in September 2019, beat Igor Krainov during his arrest and planted drugs on him. This was reported by the human rights organization "Team Against Torture".
They were sentenced to terms of 3.5 to 5 years in a general regime colony for exceeding official powers with the use of violence and causing grave consequences (Article 286 part 3 of the Criminal Code) and for illegal possession of drugs on a large scale (Article 228 part 2). UK).
In September 2019, plainclothes officers stopped Krainov, an office worker. They knocked him down, beat him and threw a bag of mephedrone into the back pocket of his jeans. Krainov was charged with drug possession on a large scale (Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code). Human rights activists published a video of his beating from surveillance cameras, which shows Krainov being beaten and looking for something, checking the contents of his trousers pockets. The police did not know about the existence of the cell at the time of the arrest.
The man, together with his lawyers, appealed to the Investigative Committee, after which three security officials were charged. The criminal prosecution against Krainov was later dropped. The police officers were fired and arrested.
