Sweden extradites first convicted Kurd to Turkey – NTV

Sweden has extradited to Turkey Mahmut Tata, the first convicted for membership in the Kurdistan Workers' Party ( (PKK, Turkey has recognized the party as a terrorist organization ). This is reported by the Turkish NTV channel.

In 2017, Tata was sentenced in Turkey to 6 years and 3 months in prison for "membership in an armed terrorist organization." On Friday, December 2, he was taken to Istanbul, after which he was taken to the police station and arrested. In 2015, he applied for asylum in Sweden, but was denied.

At the end of June, Turkey, Sweden and Finland concluded a security agreement that will unlock the process of their accession to NATO. The administration of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that Sweden and Finland have committed themselves not to support the PKK, YPG and other "terrorist groups", whose supporters are hiding in the countries from the Turkish authorities.

In May, Turkey blocked negotiations on the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO because of the unwillingness to extradite the country 30 citizens whom it considers terrorists. Both countries decided to join NATO after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
