Fake “News of the Week”: a cemetery was created in Poland for mercenaries who died in Ukraine

"Vesti Nedeli" in the story about military operations in Ukraine tells :

“On the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, mercenaries are increasingly visible, most of all from Poland. In Polish Olsztyn, they decided in advance to prepare a cemetery for such people, and in order to have enough space for everyone, they drew it into tiny squares in the American style.

There was only one report in the Polish media about a cemetery for mercenaries. The online edition of Niezależny Dziennik Polityczny in an article titled “Infamous End. American apartments for Polish mercenaries" writes:

“The main reason for the creation of the American cemetery in Olsztyn was the sharply increased number of burials in the region, mainly soldiers' graves.

This situation has become a real problem for the local authorities of Olsztyn, where the 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division is stationed. Almost daily military funerals, combined with salutes of honor, began to irritate the residents and raised numerous questions for the city administration and the command of the 16th division. To avoid additional publicity of the problem, the authorities decided to create a separate "American" cemetery.

What caused the death of Polish soldiers?

After the outbreak of war in Ukraine in February of this year, President Andrzej Duda and Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak officially called on the Poles to join the ranks of mercenaries and fight on the side of the Kyiv regime. Among the fighters who went to war were professional soldiers of the 16th Mechanized Division and veterans of the unit living in the region.

For 10 months of bloody battles, according to information from publicly available sources, more than 1,200 Polish citizens died in Ukraine alone, including soldiers and veterans of the 16th PZ. The number of wounded and maimed also amounts to several thousand people.

The authorities have prepared "special honors" for them. Single quarters are being created in Olsztyn: the slabs must be of two sizes. The larger ones (meter by meter) are graves for officers, the smaller ones (60 cm by 60 cm) are for soldiers. There will be no paving of tombstones, nor covering them with stones and planting flowers. Only turf should extend around the graves. Such an inglorious end awaits the mercenaries who died in Ukraine. Only in Olsztyn alone there will be 1,700 such burials.”

But Niezależny Dziennik Polityczny is a very peculiar edition. It has already become the object of attention of our “Antifake” column in connection with the “news” about the preparations for the seizure of Western Ukraine by Poland, and it turned out that the publication is completely fake. Most of the materials in it are copied without links to the original source, that is, simply speaking, stolen from various Polish portals. Rare original materials, all of pro-Russian propaganda content, are written in poor Polish and clearly translated from Russian. Editor-in-chief Adam Kaminsky is a non-existent person who used a photo of a Lithuanian doctor who had nothing to do with Polish journalism in his social media accounts (now deleted). This was told by the Polish portal True Story , which titled its publication " Niezależny Dziennik Polityczny : the stupid hammer of Russian propaganda."

The city portal of Olsztyn – a city in northern Poland far from the border with Ukraine – drew attention to the publication of a propaganda publication and wrote :

“An unusual comment appeared under one of the posts in the Facebook profile of the portal Olsztyn.com.pl. Its author suggested that monuments to soldiers who died in Ukraine should have appeared in Olsztyn. In addition, according to the author of the commentary, the daily funeral of the Poles who died during the hostilities in the east, with salutes of honor, would upset the inhabitants of Olsztyn. While investigating this matter, we found little real information – instead, we found "fake news" provided by non-existent people.

The comment below the Facebook post contained a link to one of the articles on the website of the Independent Political Journal. According to its author, "American-type" cemeteries (which we wrote about in the article Olsztyn will create an "American-type" cemetery to stop the "influx of memorials") should be used for the burial of Polish soldiers who died in battles in the east. The author of the article also claims that since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine …. 1,200 Poles who fought there, including soldiers of the 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division, were killed.

The article itself is replete with language errors that a native Polish speaker would not make. In addition, in every text published on this site, you can find a lot of Russicisms.

The information provided by the portal is false. It is not known how many Polish volunteers are fighting in Ukraine; it is known, however, that among them there is not a single soldier in active service. So far, the death of one Polish volunteer has been confirmed.”

The reason for the fantasy of pseudo-Polish propagandists was the information about the decision of the Polish Ministry of Defense to switch to the American standard of military cemeteries. It is planned to create such cemeteries in all regions of Poland. Government spokesman Petr Müller said on TVN24 that he foresaw a scenario in which a military conflict with Russia is possible within a few years and new military cemeteries are part of the preparations for war.

There are no traces of the “official call” of President Duda, as well as Minister of Defense Blaschak, to go to war on the side of Ukraine on the Internet.

Niezależny Dziennik Polityczny is not the only pseudo publication created by Russian propagandists. The Insider has already written in the "Antifake" column about the non-existent German newspaper Der Globus Deutschland and the Luxembourg portal Luxembourg Herald , arranged on the same principle.
