Mongolian protesters storm Government Palace over $12bn coal theft

On December 4, mass protests began in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, over $12 billion worth of export coal being stolen from the country, Central Asia reports . The Telegram channel Baza writes that on December 5, protesters storm the Government Palace in the capital and demand that the authorities punish the politicians who stole coal.

The media reported the day before that the amount of coal exported from the country differs from the amount received by the Chinese side. As a result, China executed officials involved in the theft of raw materials, and the media reported that the Chinese side sent Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erden Luvsannamsrai the names of local politicians involved in the theft.

Now the demonstrators are demanding that the government and the president name the kidnappers and expose the corruption scheme. According to Baza, the security forces stopped the first assault attempt, but the protesters are trying to break into the building.
