In Latvia, the broadcasting license of the Dozhd TV channel was canceled

The National Electronic Media Council of Latvia (NEPLP) has decided to revoke the broadcasting license of the Dozhd TV channel.

“Assessing the totality of violations, the NSESMI is convinced that the Dozhd leadership does not understand and is not aware of the significance and seriousness of the violations, and therefore cannot act on the territory of Latvia,” said Ivars Abolins, head of the council.

According to him, the decision was made in connection with the threat to national security. The channel should suspend broadcasting on December 8.

A few days earlier, Dozhd stopped working with its presenter Alexei Korostelev because of his phrase about helping the Russian military, uttered live.

“We have decided to terminate cooperation with Alexei Korostelev from today. This is a very difficult decision for us, but Dozhd's management considers it the only possible one," the channel's team said.

Earlier, NEPLP fined Dozhd for 10,000 euros. According to Delfi , the fine was imposed due to the fact that the TV channel designated the occupied Crimea as part of Russia and called the Russian army "our army."
