Nebenzia called Ukraine “the main source of weapons” for terrorists in Africa. But the authorities of African countries also blame Russia

Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya requested that a meeting of the UN Security Council be held on December 9 on the issue of supplying Western weapons to Kiev.

“Western weapons destined for Ukraine are increasingly falling into the hands of bandits and terrorists of various stripes, not only in Europe, but also in the Middle East and Africa. The President of Nigeria said that the conflict in Ukraine is the main source of weapons for terrorists in the area of the Lake Chad basin,” the Russian diplomat said.

In fact, speaking at a summit of heads of state of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, Nigerian President Mohammad Buhari did not claim that Western weapons were falling into the hands of terrorists. He spoke about the fact that the war between Russia and Ukraine, like other modern armed conflicts, is a source of arms smuggling.

“Unfortunately, the situation in the Sahel and the raging war in Ukraine are the main sources of weapons and militants who swell the ranks of terrorists in the Lake Chad region. Much of the arms and ammunition purchased for the war in Libya continues to flow into the Lake Chad region and other parts of the Sahel. Weapons used for the war in Ukraine and in Russia are equally starting to seep into the region.”

Note that Russian media, such as RIA Novosti and Rossiyskaya Gazeta , citing the President of Nigeria, also removed the mention of Russia from this phrase.

In addition, if Russia so wants to stop the supply of weapons to terrorists on Lake Chad, it makes no sense to convene a meeting of the UN Security Council on this issue – it would be much more effective to withdraw troops from Ukraine and thereby stop the war.
