The FSB accused another Russian scientist of treason. He opposed the war and supported Navalny

The FSB charged treason scientist Valery Kachin from the Jewish Autonomous Region with treason, he was detained and arrested the day before, on December 8. It is reported by TASS.

35-year-old Kachin is a junior researcher at the Bastak Nature Reserve, was engaged in geographic information systems, and before that he worked in the Birobidzhan City Hall, wrote the Caution, News Telegram channel. Information about his work in the reserve was confirmed to the Dozhd TV channel.

What exactly he is accused of is unknown. Kachin was transferred from Birobidzhan to Moscow – to the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center. The investigation asks to extend the arrest until March 12. The FSB classified the materials of the case.

The deputy director of the reserve, Sergei Krivosheev, told Dozhd that this was not related to work in the institution: “He worked in the reserve, but not in my department. [Information] about the criminal case was sent to me, I found out myself literally two days ago. I think the criminal case is not connected with the work in the reserve.”

On social networks, Kachin opposed the war in Ukraine, supported Alexei Navalny and the protests in Belarus.

This is not the first time that Russian scientists are increasingly being accused of treason. In July, 54-year-old Dmitry Kolker, head of the laboratory of quantum optical technologies at the Faculty of Physics of Novosibirsk State University, was detained. He was taken directly from the Novosibirsk hospital, despite the last stage of cancer, put on a plane, brought to Moscow and placed in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center. Kolker died in a pre-trial detention center, and the Russian Investigative Committee did not find signs of a crime in the death of a scientist.
