The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen , announced the ninth package of sanctions against Russia.
“Russia continues to bring death and destruction to Ukraine. We support Ukraine and make Russia pay for its cruelty. The existing 8 packages of sanctions that we have introduced so far have already hit Russia hard. Now we are stepping up pressure on Russia with the 9th package,” she said in a statement.
The new sanctions package includes:
- replenishment of the sanctions list for almost 200 individuals and legal entities;
- sanctions against 3 more Russian banks;
- a direct ban on the supply of drones and their components to Russia, as well as a restriction on supplies to third countries that could potentially sell them to Russia (for example, to Iran). <Russia regularly shells Ukraine with Iranian Shahed-136s, disguising them as its own drones with the domestic name "Geran-2". - new export controls, especially on dual-use goods that could be used by Russia in a war
“We are also targeting the Russian propaganda machine, with plans to take 4 more channels off the air, and we propose more economic measures against the Russian energy and mining sector,” the head of the European Commission said in a statement.
On December 5, the eighth package of EU sanctions against Russia came into force, including the introduction of a ceiling price on Russian oil transported by tankers.
This package also included a ban on servicing crypto wallets of citizens and residents of Russia.
