The US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations adopted a resolution recognizing Russia's actions against Ukraine as genocide. This is stated on the website of the department.
The resolution condemns Russia for "committing acts of genocide against the people of Ukraine" and calls on the United States and its NATO and EU allies to support the Ukrainian government to prevent further acts. The committee also supports tribunals and international criminal investigations against Russian leaders, politicians and the military, and calls on US President Joe Biden to apply global sanctions against those involved in the genocide.
“The crimes committed against the Ukrainian people during Putin’s illegal and unprovoked war are contrary to countless international conventions and can only be characterized as genocide. The Ukrainian people have demonstrated their determination and ability to repel the ongoing attacks, but the innocent will continue to die until Russia understands the consequences of its heinous actions, ”said one of the authors of the law, Senator from Maryland, Democrat Ben Cardin.
Earlier, the US State Department assigned Wagner PMC the status of "organization of particular concern." According to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, this is a response to militant activities in the Central African Republic. Russia has been directly included in the list of countries of particular concern for participating in or allowing particularly serious violations of religious freedom.
