In Lithuania, Belarusian tobacco contraband worth 1 million euros was found in a fuel truck, they tried to smuggle it to Russia

Lithuanian customs officers found Belarusian cigarettes worth 1 million euros in a fuel truck at the Medininkai-Kamenny Log checkpoint, they tried to smuggle tobacco contraband to Russia through Lithuanian territory. This was reported by the Lithuanian Customs Service on Facebook.

The fuel truck was checked with the help of an X-ray, according to the documents, it was supposed to transport 19 tons of liquefied gas through the territory of Lithuania to the Kaliningrad region. More than 286,000 packs of Belarusian cigarettes were found in the tank. The Vilnius branch of the Criminal Customs Service launched a pre-trial investigation into the smuggling. The fuel truck driver was detained for two days, but later released on bail.

In July, Lithuania expanded restrictions on the transit of goods to Kaliningrad through its territory as part of previously announced European Union (EU) sanctions. According to the customs officer, the list of goods subject to sanctions includes concrete, wood, alcohol and alcohol-based industrial chemicals. Restrictions on petroleum products will come into force in December.
