The damage from corruption crimes in Russia over the past two years has exceeded 100 billion rubles, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov said in an interview with TASS. The Insider published an investigation , according to which Andrei Kikot, Krasnov's deputy, receives bribes from the developer.
Krasnov, of course, did not mention this in his speech on the International Anti-Corruption Day. But the Prosecutor General reported that in the first nine months of 2022 alone, the damage from corruption exceeded 37 billion rubles:
“In just nine months, the amount of established damage from corruption crimes amounted to 37.6 billion rubles. At the same time, property worth more than 62.2 billion rubles was arrested and confiscated, and damages in the amount of 3.5 billion rubles were voluntarily repaid.”
In 2021, the amount of damage for investigated crimes of corruption amounted to 63.9 billion rubles, of which 15.6 billion rubles were reimbursed on a voluntary basis, property was also arrested and confiscated for 62.6 billion rubles.
The Prosecutor General added that an effective investigation of a corruption crime "cannot be limited only to the identification of the perpetrators", it is imperative to take measures to compensate for the harm. He drew attention to the fact that in the Law "On Combating Corruption" one of the three components of the concept of "combating corruption" is the minimization and elimination of the consequences of corruption offenses. How to eliminate the consequences of the offenses of Deputy Krasnov remains unclear.
The Insider regularly publishes investigations into corruption in Russia. In one of the latest materials, Sergei Yezhov found out that Andrei Kikot, Deputy Prosecutor General, is associated with a major developer. Thanks to relations with a high-ranking security official, the head of the Setl Group holding, Maxim Shubarev, protects his business and receives millions of contracts from the prosecutor's office, while Kikot leads a luxurious life and settled next door to Alina Kabaeva.
