The Times: US approves Ukraine’s long-range strikes on Russia

The Pentagon "tacitly" supported the long-range strikes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on targets in Russia, writes The Times. This is a response to the numerous strikes by Russian troops on the critical infrastructure of Ukraine.

Now the US is less concerned that long-range strikes by Ukraine could lead to a possible escalation of the conflict. Previously, one of Washington's main fears was that the Kremlin would retaliate with either tactical nuclear weapons or strikes against NATO countries.

“We don’t say to Kyiv, ‘Don’t hit Russians in Russia or Crimea. We cannot tell them what to do. It's up to them how they use their weapons. But when they use what we have supplied, we only insist that the Armed Forces of Ukraine abide by the international laws of war and the Geneva Conventions, ”a Pentagon source told The Times. He emphasized that these requirements do not allow Ukraine to use American weapons to attack civilians, and Kyiv follows them.

This "tacit consent" of the United States will most likely allow them to supply Ukraine with longer-range weapons. Among them are the army tactical missiles ATACMS, which have a range of up to 300 km. In addition, Ukraine needs the American MQ-1C Gray Eagle drone, which has a range of 370 km. This UAV can be armed with four Hellfire missiles or eight Stinger missiles, is able to stay in the air for more than 24 hours and is equipped with modern reconnaissance equipment.
