The US has imposed sanctions on three Russian military establishments involved in the Kremlin's purchase of Iranian Shahed-136 drones used in the war against Ukraine. This is stated on the website of the US government.
The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS), the 924th Russian State Center for Unmanned Aviation and the Military Transport Aviation Command (VTA) fell under US sanctions. The VKS, according to the US State Department, is the intended beneficiary of the Russian-Iranian agreement on the transfer of drones. The 924th State Center for Unmanned Aviation sent military personnel to Iran to receive training in operating drones, and the BTA was engaged in sending drones from Iran to Russia.
The US government emphasizes that Russia, by buying Iranian drones, violates UN Security Council Resolution 2231 on the Iranian nuclear issue, and also contributes to the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. "The United States will continue to use every tool at our disposal to disrupt these transmissions and impose consequences on those involved in these activities," the government said in a statement.
Earlier it became known that the ban on the supply of drones to Russia will be included in the ninth package of EU sanctions. We are talking about both direct deliveries of UAVs and their components, and about limiting deliveries to third countries that could potentially sell them to Russia (for example, to Iran).
