The head of Komi, Vladimir Uiba, called residents protesting against the construction of a new waste sorting complex in the republic “environmental garbage” and “enemies”. He stated this during the "straight line", drew the attention of the publication "7×7".
“There are people who want to see an eco-republic, and those people for whom the worse, the better. This one, excuse me, is ecological garbage. Well, how can you say that sorting is bad? Well, excuse me, then what's good? the head of the region said.
“Allegedly activists,” Uyba said about residents of the Ezhvinsky district of Syktyvkar, who are collecting signatures against the new sorting complex. Officials want to bring waste from seven districts of the republic and Syktyvkar there, 7×7 wrote . The complex will allegedly help reduce the environmental burden and introduce separate waste collection in Komi. However, residents fear that only 15% of the garbage will be sent for recycling, and the rest will go to the landfill, which is planned to be built next to the complex. They ask to prevent the "second Shies" and offer to send their demands to the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic. According to them, a timber industry complex and a plywood factory are already operating in this area: when a landfill burns next to the enterprises, “there is nothing to breathe at all.”
