The United States imposed sanctions on the oligarch Potanin and members of his family

The US has imposed sanctions on Russian oligarch Vladimir Potanin, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov and several Russian governors.

Potanin-controlled Interros investment holding and Rosbank, which Interros bought from Société Générale SA earlier this year, were also subject to restrictions. Companies associated with VTB were also subject to sanctions. VTB itself has long been under sanctions.

Tinkoff and Norilsk Nickel, in which Potanin's Interros holding owns shares, were not subject to US sanctions.

The fact that the United States is going to impose sanctions on Potanin, wrote on the eve of The Wall Street Journal, citing sources from among American officials. Potanin is a shareholder of PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel, one of the world's largest producers of palladium and refined nickel. Norilsk Nickel is the basis of a significant part of the oligarch's personal fortune. However, the sources of the newspaper noted that the restrictions would not apply to this company.
