Russian entrepreneurs asked Mintsifra for permission to use software with an expired license

The Institute for the Development of Entrepreneurship and Economics appealed to the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia with a request to allow the use of software with an expired license. Izvestia writes about it.

The institute clarified that foreign software manufacturers refuse to renew the license for Russian business. The letter from the Ministry of Digital Development emphasizes that 70% of Russian companies have already faced problems because of this. Entrepreneurs ask to create a bill that would introduce a moratorium on criminal and administrative liability for the use of software with an expired license in the event that this happened through the fault of the developer.

The letter also states that foreign companies have stopped servicing their products. Russian business is looking for ways to solve the problems that have arisen, but this takes time, the authors of the letter emphasize. Entrepreneurs are also trying to develop their own software. According to Yale University, because of the war with Ukraine, 64 software companies left Russia in whole or in part. Among them are Adobe, Avast, Coursera, Jira, Microsoft and others.
