Putin signs law banning surrogacy for foreigners and single men

Vladimir Putin signed a law that prohibits the services of surrogate mothers for foreigners, as well as for single men.

Now the surrogacy service will be available only to Russian married couples and Russian women who cannot give birth on their own due to medical reasons. Previously, the law was approved by the Federation Council.

“Surrogacy for foreigners is prohibited. This will prevent the trafficking of our children, protect kids from situations when they fall into same-sex couples or become victims of crimes, including sales for organs, ”Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the State Duma, commented on the law earlier.

In July of this year, Russia passed the first sentence on a woman who became a surrogate mother. She was given three years in prison for human trafficking.
