The leadership of the Moscow Helsinki Group (MHG), the oldest human rights organization in Russia, has received a liquidation suit from the Ministry of Justice, Novaya Gazeta reports .
According to the publication, they are going to liquidate the organization based on the results of an unscheduled audit conducted at the request of the prosecutor's office.
The mission of the MHG is to promote the observance of human rights and the building of democracy in Russia. Since its founding, the MHG has been engaged in identifying violations of human rights and taking measures to achieve compliance with international human rights obligations assumed by the Russian Federation.
