Three people died in an explosion on a gas pipeline in Chuvashia. Europe’s gas prices skyrocket due to explosion

Three people were killed, one was injured as a result of an explosion on the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhgorod gas pipeline in Chuvashia, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the head of the rural settlement. According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a gas leak occurred on the gas pipeline.

It is known that before the fire, work was carried out by the "operating organization".

A video of the fire following the explosion has been posted online. The ex-deputy head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia told RIA Novosti that the gas flaring had been eliminated. The section of the gas pipeline is damaged, its repair may take about three days, the Ministry of Emergency Situations added.

Stock prices for gas in Europe jumped to $1,250 per thousand cubic meters amid news of the explosion, but then dropped to $1,188.

Gas pipeline "Urengoy – Pomary – Uzhgorod" exports gas from Western Siberia to Europe. This pipe crosses the Russian-Ukrainian border at the Sudzha station in the Kursk region. It is the only entry point for Russian gas to Ukraine for subsequent transit to Europe.
