Shoigu: The age limit for service in the army should be raised to 30, and the age of conscription to 21

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the age of conscription for military service should be gradually increased to 21 years, and the age of maximum service to 30 years. He made such a proposal at a meeting of the collegium of the Ministry of Defense.

Now in Russia men under the age of 27 are being called up for military service.

Shoigu also announced the need to increase the size of the Russian army to 1.5 million people, including 695,000 contract soldiers.

Before the start of the war with Ukraine, the size of the Russian army was at the level of 741,100 military personnel, military expert Pavel Luzin previously calculated. According to him, based on open data, in recent years the active army has not exceeded the mark of 750,000 personnel.
