A fire broke out in a nursing home on Tavricheskaya Street in Kemerovo on the evening of December 23. 20 people died, two were injured, they are now in hospital with burns in serious condition
The fire started at 22:21 local time and spread over an area of 180 square meters. By 23:15, they managed to extinguish it – more than 80 people and 28 pieces of equipment were involved in the extinguishing. According to preliminary data, the cause of the fire was improper operation of the furnace. TASS writes about this with reference to law enforcement agencies. The Investigative Committee for the Kemerovo Region opened criminal cases under articles on causing death by negligence (Article 109), negligence (Article 293) and provision of unsafe services (Article 238).
It is known that the nursing home was not officially registered. The owner of the building in which he was located rented the house. According to TASS, the organizer of the nursing home was the pastor of the Evangelical Church Andrey Smirnov. Both he and the owner of the building are in the investigation department.
“A private house on Tavricheskaya Street burned down. It was established that it was illegally used for the round-the-clock maintenance of the elderly. No fire extinguishing systems were provided there, ”an emergency services employee said in a conversation with Interfax.
