The Village: Yandex fired an employee who told reporters about the work of censorship in Yandex.News

Yandex fired an employee who told The Village about the principles of censorship in the Yandex.News aggregator. The publication itself writes about this.

According to The Village, the company's security service tracked down the one who communicated with journalists in just 17 hours. This was stated by one of the top managers of Yandex on the morning of December 23 on a daily phone call. There were no public comments from the company.

Information from a Yandex employee became the basis of an investigation published by The Village on December 22. Journalist Andrei Serafimov wrote about how several Yandex IT specialists after the start of the war intended to prove the fact of censorship in Yandex.News. They gave the publication a fragment of the source code. He proves that the issuance of news that gets to the main service is regulated using technical manipulations.

The Village also learned that the company has “white lists” of the media – Moscow and federal. Previously, Meduza wrote about them. The lists include, among others, Kommersant, Vedomosti, RBC and TASS, and RIA Novosti. It was launched back in 2016 with the participation of the presidential administration.
