Perm shooter Timur Bekmansurov sentenced to life in prison

The Perm City Court has sentenced Timur Bekmansurov to life imprisonment for shooting at Perm State University in September 2021. The prosecutor of the Perm Territory, Maxim Filippov, had previously insisted on such a verdict.

“I believe that the defendant poses an exceptional danger to society. <…> We propose that Bekmansurov be sentenced to life imprisonment,” he said . Bekmansurov's lawyer, Viktor Pankov, insisted on mitigating the sentence, referring to the fact that Bekmansurov "fully admitted his guilt and repented of his deed."

On September 20, 2021, 18-year-old Bekmansurov opened fire on the territory of Perm University. Six people died and more than 20 were injured. During the arrest, he was wounded from a service weapon. As a result, Bekmansurov's leg was amputated, he received the third group of disability.

The shooter stated that he went to the massacre due to suicidal thoughts. He could not bring himself to commit suicide, and hoped that he would be shot during his arrest.
