Brazilian soccer player Pele dies

The famous Brazilian footballer Pelé (Edson Arantes do Nascimento) has died at the age of 82 at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, according to AP, citing his agent Joe Fraga.

Pele had a colon tumor removed last September, after which he ended up in the hospital several times. The last time he was admitted to the hospital was this November. He never achieved remission and his condition worsened after suffering the coronavirus. In December, doctors diagnosed him with heart and kidney dysfunction.

Pele is a three-time world champion (1958, 1962, 1970), he has 92 matches and 77 goals for the Brazilian national team. He was recognized by FIFA as the best football player of the 20th century.
