Aleksey Malashenko, a Soviet and Russian political scientist, orientalist and Islamic scholar, died at the age of 72. This was announced on Facebook by political scientist Arkady Dubnov.
“Aleksey Malashenko has died. Today. Suddenly. A brilliant scientist, an outstanding Islamic scholar, a decent person, just a friend,” Dubnov wrote.
Alexei Malashenko is a former consultant for the Religion, Society, and Security Program at the Carnegie Moscow Center.
The scientist in different years was a professor at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, taught at the Higher School of Economics, was a leading researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and headed the religion sector at the Institute of Oriental Studies. Alexey Malashenko also worked as a visiting professor at Colgate University (USA).
