RIA Novosti , Rossiyskaya Gazeta , RT and other pro-Kremlin media reported that the weapons supplied by Western countries to Ukraine are supposedly worthless: they are “scrap metal and junk” that are still impossible to fight.
“Military aid from the West flows to Ukraine in a continuous stream. It should be noted that most of the weapons are in poor technical condition. To put it bluntly, it's just scrap metal and junk, which is confirmed by the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Such a deplorable state of equipment is explained by the fact that it is supplied to Kyiv from old military warehouses, ”the material says.
The source of this information turned out to be a fake Polish website called Niezależny Dziennik Polityczny. The Insider has already written about him: most of his publications are copied one by one from other portals; thus creating the impression of a full-fledged media. The few original materials are undisguised Russian propaganda and outright lies; Thus, the publication published fabricated statements by American generals that the Poles are drunkards, drug addicts, thieves and bandits, and Poland itself is a swamp of the world. Moreover, many texts are written in poor Polish, saturated with Russianisms, there are constructions that are impossible in the language.
The editor of the publication, Adam Kaminsky, is a non-existent person. The photo posted on his Twitter and Facebook accounts (both now deleted) is actually a portrait of Andrius Zukauskas, a Lithuanian traumatologist who has nothing to do with Polish journalism. Its authors also appear to be fictional characters. This also applies to Jacek Tochman, the author of a publication about NATO's "scrap metal" – The Insider was unable to find the name of this journalist in other sources. One can imagine what sources these fake authors have in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Ukraine is currently armed with, for example, Patriot systems, which Vladimir Putin called "old" and stressed that they "do not work like, say, our S-300." Anti-aircraft missile system Patriot first adopted by the United States in 1982, but has undergone major modernization over the past decades; new modifications are designed to fight ballistic missiles, which is especially important for Ukraine when the enemy is conducting massive rocket attacks on its infrastructure facilities. In the 2000s for Patriot developed the ERINT missile, designed specifically to combat ballistic missiles; due to its small size, the launcher, designed for 4 standard MIM-104 missiles, fits 16 ERINTs. Modern modifications of the Patriot use a satellite tracking system for missile launches.
But the funny thing is that quite recently Russian propaganda reproached the West for the exact opposite: it allegedly supplies weapons to Ukraine in order to make it its “testing ground” for the latest types of weapons. In particular, in November, Moskovsky Komsomolets, in support of this point of view, recounted in detail an article by the New York Times, which listed the models of modern weapons and combat systems provided to Kiev.
According to the publication, Kyiv, in particular, uses the Delta command and control system, which was developed jointly with NATO.
The authors note that this system is one example of how Ukraine has become a testing ground for modern weapons and information systems, including new ways to use them in the future.
The NYT publication also states that InfraRed Imaging System Tail (IRIS-T) air defense systems, remotely controlled boats and EDM4S SkyWiper drone suppression systems were used in Ukraine.
The IRIS-T air defense systems were adopted by Western countries in 2015-2022, and the Lithuanian EDM4S SkyWiper anti-drone device was first demonstrated in 2019 and used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Donbas in 2021.
