McDonald’s stops working in Kazakhstan

The McDonald's restaurant chain in Kazakhstan is terminating operations under this brand due to supply restrictions, the management company said in a statement.

Earlier, Bloomberg wrote that McDonald's banned franchisees from buying meat patties from Russian suppliers amid sanctions, and purchasing products from local and European producers at higher prices and expensive delivery would lead to restaurants operating at a loss.

“The chain of fast food restaurants managed by Food Solutions KZ LLP stops operating under the McDonald's brand in Kazakhstan due to supply restrictions. The resumption of activities and the timing of the opening of new fast food restaurants under the new name will be announced in the near future,” the statement said.

The first restaurant under the McDonald's brand in Kazakhstan was opened in 2016.

In 2022, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, McDonald's announced that it was leaving the Russian market and selling the business after 32 years of operation.
