During the war, Russia mined 250,000 km² of territory in Ukraine – Shmyhal

During the war, the Russian military mined 250,000 km2 of Ukrainian territory. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal in an interview with the South Korean agency Yonhap.

“It is currently the largest minefield in the world. This not only hinders the movement of people, but also entails serious disruptions in agriculture, which is one of our main industries,” he said.

As Yonhap emphasizes, the area of mined territories is larger than the area of the entire Korean Peninsula (about 221 thousand km²), Romania (about 238 thousand km²) and Great Britain (about 244 thousand km²).

In early August, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine , said that Russia was mining the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in Energodar. It is also known that the Russian military leaves mines in the settlements from which they are forced to retreat. In November, it was reported that before retreating from Kherson, they mined all the offices in the SBU building in the city.
