In South Sudan, six journalists have been detained over a video of President Salva Kiir urinating at an official event while the national anthem is playing. It is reported by Reuters with reference to the national union of journalists.
The footage shows a dark stain spreading across the trousers of the 71-year-old president during his speech at the opening of a new road. The video was never aired on television, but circulated on social media.
The detained journalists are cameramen Joseph Oliver and Mustafa Osman, video editor Victor Lado, and video department employees Jacob Benjamin, Cherbek Ruben and Joval Tumbe. They are suspected of leaking the video online.
Kiir has served as president since South Sudan gained independence in 2011. Government officials repeatedly dismissed rumors that he was unwell.
