The Russian Defense Ministry called the shelling of Kramatorsk an “operation of retaliation” for Makiivka

The Russian Defense Ministry said it had carried out a "retaliatory operation" in response to a Ukrainian strike on a Russian military base in Makeevka.

We are talking about the shelling of Kramatorsk, committed by Russia on the night of January 8. According to the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavel Kirilenko, a total of seven strikes were inflicted . As a result of the shelling, the buildings of an educational institution, an industrial facility and a garage cooperative were damaged. Kirilenko said there were no casualties, but Russia cites other data. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the shelling was carried out at the places of temporary deployment of the Ukrainian military: dormitories No. 28 and No. 47. The agency claims that more than 700 military men were in the first at that moment, and more than 600 in the second.

The Kramatorsk City Council published photos from the scene of the shelling. They show that the shells did not fly into the buildings of the school and hostels, but next to them.

The Ukrainian army attacked the building of vocational school No. 19 in Makeevka, Donetsk region, on the night of January 1. The Ukrainian side claims that as a result, about 400 people could have died, about 300 could have been injured. At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense acknowledged the death of only 89 people.
