Israeli minister calls Palestinian flag ‘symbol of terrorist organization’, police instructed to pluck flags

Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said he ordered the police to take down Palestinian flags.

“Today, I instructed the Israeli police to enforce the ban on flying any flag of the Palestine Liberation Organization that is identified as the flag of a terrorist organization and to stop any incitement against the State of Israel. We will fight against terrorism and promote terrorism with all our might,” he wrote on Twitter.

Earlier in Israel, people were already arrested for unfurling the flag of the Palestinian Authority. In December, three people were arrested in Haifa for this. The Israeli Supreme Court (High Court) held that arrests for using Palestinian flags at demonstrations were illegal.

On January 8, it was also reported that Israel had canceled a permit allowing Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki to enter its territory.
