Thailand changes its mind about requiring tourists to have Covid-19 vaccination certificates

Thai authorities have lifted a rule requiring all travelers to the country to present a certificate of vaccination against Covid-19, according to CNA. The new requirements were announced on 7 January.

According to the Minister of Health Anutin Charnvirakul, these requirements were soon considered unnecessary, since the percentage of vaccinated people in the world is quite high. In addition, as the minister noted, checking the certificates of all travelers will create inconvenience.

Charnvirakul specified that Thailand would also allow unvaccinated travelers.

The fact that all people arriving in the country must present a vaccination certificate was previously announced by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand. The reason for this decision was a sharp increase in the incidence of Covid-19 in China, which began in December.

The rule was to go into effect on January 9th. It was on this day that the first plane from China arrived in Thailand since the beginning of the pandemic.

Last year, Thailand lifted entry restrictions imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic and began to welcome tourists again. As CNA notes with reference to Charnvirakula, the country expects from seven to ten million tourists from China alone.
