Russian woman Sofya Sapega, convicted in Belarus, denied pardon – RIA Novosti

The stepfather of the Russian woman Sofya Sapega, convicted in Belarus, Sergei Dudich, said that she was denied pardon. RIA Novosti writes about this.

On May 6, a court in Belarus sentenced Sapieha to 6 years in prison. She was charged with seven criminal articles. In particular, the girl was found guilty of "illegal collection and dissemination of information about private life, constituting the personal and family secrets of another person, without his consent, which caused harm to the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of the victim." At the end of June, she asked Alexander Lukashenko for pardon.

The lawyer for the Russian woman's family, Anton Gashinsky, told RIA Novosti in the fall that her request for clemency had been received by the profile commission and should be considered before the end of the year.

“The commission considered the petition and refused,” Sergei Dudich said. He explained that the Russian woman received a response from the commission on January 2 and later told her family about this decision in a letter.

Sofya Sapega is a Russian citizen, she was born in Vladivostok, where her relatives still live. She herself lived in Vilnius and studied at the European Humanities University at the Faculty of International Law. She had a residence permit in Lithuania and Belarus.

Sapega is the ex-girlfriend of Roman Protasevich, one of the creators of the Nexta Telegram channel. Together with Protasevich, they were detained on May 23. On that day, a Ryanair plane en route from Athens to Vilnius landed at Minsk Airport after receiving a report of a mine attack. After landing, Protasevich and Sapieha were detained and arrested.
