At least five people were killed and 15 injured in an explosion that occurred on Sunday in the DR Congo. According to Deutsche Welle, an explosive device went off in a church in the town of Kasindi, in the province of North Kivu, near the border with Uganda.
The official representative of the army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Anthony Mualusai, called the incident a terrorist attack, and noted that there is evidence indicating the involvement of the Islamic group "Alliance of Democratic Forces" (ADF), associated with the "Islamic State", in this crime.
According to Mualushai, the site of the explosion was cordoned off by security forces, and the victims were taken to hospitals.
Provincial government official Charles Omeongi told DW that the ADF had not attacked in Kasindi before. The group has been active in North Kivu since 2014.
According to DW, the ADF has been blamed for killing hundreds of villagers over the past two years. In 2021, the DR Congo and Uganda launched a joint military operation to destroy this group.
