Vakhtang Kikabidze dies

The actor and singer Vakhtang Kikabidze died, the Georgian TV channel Mtavari reported . He was 84 years old.

Kikabidze was an active member of the Georgian parliament. He had the title of People's Artist of Georgia and Honored Artist of Ukraine.

A native of Tbilisi, People's Artist of the Georgian SSR Kikabidze began his career as a singer, performed with the jazz ensembles Dielo and Orera. In 1966 he made his film debut. He starred in several dozen films, including Do not Cry!, Mimino, TASS is authorized to declare ….

Kikabidze was also a screenwriter and director, made two films in the 1980s: "Be healthy, dear!" and "Men and Everyone Else".

In 2008, Kikabidze refused to accept the Russian Order of Friendship due to the conflict between Russia and Georgia. The artist also criticized Moscow for the annexation of Crimea and spoke out in support of Ukraine.
