In Sevastopol, annexed by Russia, a drone was shot down, which was flying towards the Belbek military airfield. This was announced in the Telegram channel by the "governor" Mikhail Razvozhaev.
According to him, there was an attack by drones, Razvozzhaev did not report the exact number of UAVs.
"Air defense systems shot down the UAV over the sea towards Belbek."
This is the second drone attack in the last 24 hours, which was reported by the local "authorities". On the evening of January 15, Razvozzhaev reported that the air defense systems were shot down over the UAV bay.
Last year, attacks were also reported, on December 8, air defense worked over Sevastopol. Before that, pro-Russian Telegram channels reported about an attempt by Ukrainian drones to attack the Crimean Belbek airfield near Sevastopol. According to propagandists, including the pro-Russian Rybar channel, they were shot down on approach. This is not the first attack on the airfield. On August 18, air defense also shot down a drone, local "authorities" reported. Shortly before that, on August 9, as a result of explosions near the military airport in Novofedorovka, at least 10 Russian aircraft were destroyed .
The military airfield "Belbek" in Sevastopol was captured on February 28, 2014, two weeks before the annexation of the peninsula, by "self-defense units" – Russian military in unmarked uniforms, the so-called "polite people". Since 2015, they wanted to make the airfield the second civilian airport in Crimea, the Regional Construction Company, associated with businessman Arkady Rotenberg, was supposed to reconstruct the airport. In the same year, the airport received 14 charter passenger flights, but after that it was never used for civilian purposes. The publication "Military Industrial Courier" reported that the 38th Fighter Aviation Regiment was stationed at the airfield, it included two squadrons with Su-27SM3, Su-30M2, Su-27P, Su-27UB aircraft.
