Lawyers wrote an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin demanding that they stop putting Alexei Navalny in a punishment cell and allow civilian doctors to see him. The appeal was published by one of its authors, Viktor Drozdov.
“We cannot and do not have the right to calmly look at the violations of constitutional rights and the derogation of the human dignity of our colleague, deprived of the status of a lawyer in connection with his criminal prosecution against the background of his active political activities in Russia, Navalny Alexei Anatolyevich,” the letter says.
Lawyers point out that the conditions of Navalny's detention in the correctional colony "are associated with harm to his health and pose a threat to life."
“Continuous detention in a ShIZO for an incredibly long time is blatant torture and actually causes serious harm to his health, creates a direct threat to his life. The reasons for placement in the ShIZO are not just far-fetched, but frankly demonstrative, aimed not at correcting the prisoner, but at bullying him, ”the text of the appeal says.
According to lawyers, Navalny's appearance "indicates that he is being kept in inhuman conditions," and this "cannot cause anything but concern for his life and health."
In addition, the lawyers demanded to "remove the information blockade around the conditions" of Navalny in the colony, as well as to conduct a public check on the legality of the actions of the colony employees and name the persons responsible for what is happening to the politician.
Earlier, more than 600 doctors signed an open letter to Putin demanding that doctors be allowed to see Navalny and stop sending him to the ShIZO.
“We demand an end to the abuse of Alexei Navalny, we demand an end to sending Alexei to a ShIZO, we demand that civilian doctors be allowed to see him and, if there is evidence, that he be hospitalized in a civilian hospital for a full examination and treatment. We demand to realize the right of Alexei Navalny to full-fledged medical care and ensure the implementation of the articles of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, of which you are the guarantor, ”the doctors wrote.
On December 31, Alexei Navalny was sent to the ShIZO for the tenth time for a maximum period of 15 days (due to the fact that he washed his face half an hour ahead of schedule). Now Navalny is in the ShIZO, he has a temperature, fever and cough. His lawyer has not been given the opportunity to give him medication.
