The number of victims as a result of a Russian missile attack on a residential building in Dnipro increased from 30 to 35, including two children found under the rubble. This was written in Telegram by the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration (OVA) Valentin Reznichenko.
At night, rescuers pulled several more dead from under the rubble, the head said. 39 people were rescued, 75 were injured, including 14 children.
“The fate of another 35 residents of the house is unknown. The search for people under the rubble continues.”
Reznichenko also posted a photo of a rescuer walking through the ruins. According to him, the rescue and search operation has been going on for 40 hours.
On the night of January 16, Russia continued shelling the territory of Ukraine, including a missile attack on Zaporozhye and the suburbs, said the head of the Zaporizhzhya OVA Oleksandr Starukh. Objects of civil, housing and industrial infrastructure were destroyed, several people were injured.
During another massive missile attack on Ukraine on January 14, one of the Russian missiles hit a nine-story residential building in Dnipro. Two entrances were destroyed. The speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuri Ignat, said that it was an Kh-22 missile launched by a Tu-22M3 bomber from the Kursk region or from the Sea of Azov. Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine, stated that the Ukrainian air defense system shot down the missile, as a result of which it fell on the house. However, Dnipro Mayor Boris Filatov then wrote that “Arestovich is a narcissistic cattle and a garbage mouth,” and called on the SBU and other Ukrainian services to “respond” to Arestovich’s statement. At the same time, the Air Force of Ukraine reported that they "have no fire weapons capable of shooting down this type of missiles."
It is noteworthy that the largest Russian state agencies, such as RIA Novosti and TASS, did not publish any news about the impact, destruction and loss of life in the Dnieper. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in its summary spoke about the missile attack, arguing that the troops “hit the military command and control system of Ukraine and related energy facilities.” The official representative of the department, Igor Konashenkov, also did not mention the death of people, reporting: “All the designated objects were hit. The target has been reached."
