Ukraine and the EU signed a memorandum that provides for the provision of €18 billion in assistance to Kyiv. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal wrote about this on Twitter.
According to Shmyhal, this will help the country maintain macroeconomic stability in the future. Kyiv will receive the first payment of €3 billion later this week, the prime minister wrote.
The Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, specified that the loan agreement and the memorandum of understanding will help cover the urgent needs of the budget in 2023. He thanked the EU for providing timely assistance to Ukraine.
The United States and EU countries are allocating billions of dollars and euros to help Ukraine, and weapons have been supplied since the beginning of the war. US President Joe Biden in December, during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, announced another $1.85 billion aid package. The White House also promised to support Ukraine for as long as needed. At the same time, Western companies continue to supply Russia with components for Russian Orlan-10 drones, according to a joint investigation by Important Stories, Reuters and the British Institute for Defense Studies. In just a few months of 2022, Russia made purchases worth more than $25.75 million, including from US companies.
