Regional and municipal deputies signed an open letter in support of Alexei Navalny, protesting against the torture conditions of his detention in the colony. The text of the letter, under which there are more than 50 signatures, was published on his Facebook page by a former deputy of the Ostankino District Council, Sergei Tsukasov.
“To everyone who follows the fate of Alexei, it is very clear that the purpose of his continuous placement in a punishment cell is to create unbearable conditions in places of deprivation of liberty and cause harm to his physical and mental health, as well as a threat to life,” the letter says.
The authors of the letter demand the following from the Russian authorities:
- stop putting Navalny in a punishment cell;
- stop the practice of issuing unreasonable penalties, the purpose of which is to create unbearable conditions and deprive the prisoner of visits from relatives;
- allow civilian doctors to see Navalny;
- if necessary, hospitalize him in a regular hospital, not a prison one;
- check the actions of the administration of the colony;
- punish the perpetrators of abuse.
Among the signatories are deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg of the 5th and 6th convocations Maxim Reznik, deputy of the Tomsk city Duma and ex-employee of the local headquarters of Navalny Andrey Fateev, as well as former and current deputies of various levels from Moscow from the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Leningrad, Tula and Saratov regions, Yoshkar-Ola, Novosibirsk, Krasnodar Territory.
On January 10, an open letter in support of Navalny was published and signed by several hundred doctors. “The conditions of detention and the appearance of Alexei Navalny cause us great concern for his life and health. The refusal of representatives of the Federal Penitentiary Service to transfer the necessary medicines to Alexei creates a direct threat to life, ”the doctors wrote.
An open letter from lawyers followed, who also demanded that civilian doctors be allowed to see Navalny and stop placing him in torture conditions in the ShIZO.
