European Jewish Congress urges Lavrov to apologize for comparing US to Hitler

The European Jewish Congress called on Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to apologize for his words about the US and Hitler. This is stated on the website of the organization.

Earlier, Lavrov compared the actions of the United States to create a coalition to confront Russia with the actions of Napoleon Bonaparte and Adolf Hitler: “Just as Napoleon mobilized almost all of Europe against the Russian Empire, as Hitler mobilized and captured, put under arms most of the European countries and threw them against the Soviet Union, now the United States has organized a coalition <…> and through Ukraine, by proxy, they are waging a war against our country with the same task – the final solution of the “Russian question”. He also stated that the desire of European politicians to defeat Russia is the same as Hitler's desire to solve the "Jewish question".

The website of the European Jewish Congress quotes the president of the organization, Ariel Muzikant, as saying: “We are shocked and shocked by this shameful comparison made by Minister Lavrov between the actions of the coalition of democratic countries and Hitler's persecution and murder of six million Jews during the Holocaust. This is a distortion of the Holocaust at its most basic level, and we call on Mr. Lavrov to apologize and withdraw these comments.”

During the war, Lavrov had already come into conflict with the Jewish community. In May, he stated in an interview with the Italian television company Mediaset about Hitler's Jewish roots: “He [Vladimir Zelensky] puts forward an argument: how can they have a Nazi if he is a Jew. I could be wrong, but A. Hitler also had Jewish blood. It means absolutely nothing. The wise Jewish people say that the most ardent anti-Semites are usually Jews. “The family has its black sheep,” as we say.” For this, according to the Israeli authorities, Putin had to apologize personally.
