PMC Wagner is expanding its mining projects in Africa, writes Politico, citing data from a Western official and a diplomatic cable from the United States.
The publication claims that over the past year, the PMC has significantly expanded its activities in the Central African Republic, where mining profits could rise to almost $1 billion. According to the official, this funding will most likely be used by the group to acquire new weapons and fighter jets.
Gold mining takes place at a mine in the town of Ndassime, located near Bambari in the center of the country. Now the mine consists of eight production zones, which are at different stages of development.
The authorities of the Central African Republic have ceased to give permission for the launch of drones of UN peacekeepers over the field. American officials believe this indicates that the PMC "gained political control in the country."
